Description
#3200 – A 2.6 x 1.34 x 1-inch specimen of dark green Demantoid Garnet on a white/tan matrix.ย This specimen has two complete Demantoid crystals.ย An unusual find from almost the other side of the world.ย Demantoid garnets from the Belqeys Mountain region in Iran areย formed through aย hydrothermal skarn process. They occur within limestone layers in a metamorphic sequence of amphibolite and ophiolitic rocks. The heat and fluids from an ancient granodiorite intrusion, which is believed to be the source of hydrothermal fluids, caused mineralization where demantoid garnets formed alongside minerals like pyrite, calcite, and diopside.ย
