Description
Fossil #1 – A 1.4 x .75 x 75 -inch Horned Coral specimen on a 2 x 1.75 -inch shaley limestone matrix from Maysville, Kentucky. The geologic origin of Grewingkia canadensis fossil from Maysville, Kentucky is the Upper Ordovician Period, approximately 450 million years ago. These corals lived in a shallow, tropical sea that covered the region, and their fossils are found in specific rock formations like the Fairview Formation and related local units, which have been uplifted over time to form the bedrock exposed today. The sediments that once formed the seafloor are now part of the Cincinnati Arch, with the rock layers dipping gently to the north, east, and west.
