Description
#1201 – A 1.8 x 1.5 x 1.25-inch gorgeous purple Amethyst Quartz crystal from Georgia’s premier Amethyst locality Jackson Crossroads in Tignal, Wilkes County Georgia. This closed locale has provided some of the Southeast United States best Amethyst specimens. Amethyst from Jackson Crossroads, Georgia, formed through hydrothermal activity in cavities within a host rock of metadacite or slightly metamorphosed granite, located south of the Brevard fault zone. Silica-rich solutions, likely containing iron impurities, flowed through these voids and deposited quartz as the solutions cooled. The amethyst’s purple color comes from iron and possibly other elements trapped within the quartz crystal lattice.
