Description
#3087 – A 1.02 x .85 x .55 – inch Quartz “Field Diamond” cluster from Muddy Creek, Jefferson County, Tennessee. This field diamond cluster features three crystals grew together forming a great example of Tennessee’s top quality field diamonds. Quartz crystals in Jefferson County occur in the Sevier Shale formation. These crystals formed in open spaces, such as extension cracks (boudinage) and vugs, in folded and sheared interbedded shale and siltstone. The deposition of this quartz took place during or after the Alleghanian Orogeny, a major mountain-building event, as silica-rich fluids circulated through the deforming rock layers.
