#3206 A 1.57 x 1.18 x .67 -inch reddish purple euhedral Almandite crystal from the Little Pine Mine, Marshall, North Carolina.  This specimen was collected in 1995.  The almandine garnets from the Little Pine Mine in Marshall, North Carolina, formed through regional metamorphism under conditions of high heat and pressure, occurring within a chlorite mica schist host rock. The geologic processes took place during the first mountain-building stages of the Appalachian Mountains, over 450 million years ago.
