Description

#3033- A 2.36 x 1.77 x 1.46 -inch specimen of Aegerine and Albite from Mt. Malosa, Malawi.  Blackish green Aegerine crystals up to 1.5 inches in length occur with white Albite.  The aegirine and albite from Mt. Malosa, Malawi, formed in alkaline (peralkaline) pegmatites and nepheline syenites within the Zomba-Malosa igneous complex. This geological environment is part of the larger Chilwa Alkaline Province, which formed due to Mesozoic igneous intrusions into ancient crystalline basement rock during the rifting of the supercontinent Gondwana.
