Description
#3093 – A 2.44 x 1.65 x 1.06 – inch specimen of rich green Malachite from Katanga Province, Democratic Republic of Congo. The Malachite occurs in botryoidal form in this colorful specimen. Malachite in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) originates from the supergene enrichment of copper deposits in the Katanga region, particularly the Central African Copperbelt. It forms in the oxidized zones of primary copper ore deposits through the weathering of copper-bearing minerals like chalcopyrite, with groundwater carrying dissolved copper and host rock carbonates providing the necessary chemical ingredients.
