Description
#1679 – A 2 x 1.89 x .79 -inch specimen of yellow-brass-white metallic Arsenopyrite from the Panasqueria Mine, Covilha, Castelo Branco, Portugal.ย Arsenopyrite at the Panasqueira Mineย formed from hydrothermal fluids during the Hercynian orogeny, which deposited the mineral in quartz veins within Precambrian to Cambrian marine sedimentary rocks. These veins were injected into the existing rock layers after a large granite batholith intruded, causing regional and contact metamorphism and creating the veins through which the ore-bearing fluids later flowed.ย
